When did your love of STEM begin?

My love for STEM began as early as I can remember. I was always very curious. I liked to know how things worked and why. It wasn't until I was in high school that I realized I loved science

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

The best part is meeting new people and constantly learning new things. Doing research your works days are never the same as the one before. You are constantly learning new information and deepening your understanding on a topic that you enjoy. My other favorite part about STEM is sharing my Science with all kinds of audiences, from kids at STEM days to other academics at conferences.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

My advice would be to find a subject you are passionate about and go for it. Even if you fail along the way, failure is a part of learning and you can only go up from there. I cannot even count how many times I have failed and I know I am a much better and more confident scientist because of it.

“This is when I was at the Ontario Science Centre and was involved in a demonstration about electricity. Every March break my mom would take us here as a kid. It was my favourite tradition growing up to go and learn new things!”
