When did your love of STEM begin?
When I was 9 years old, I wanted to be a gynecologists', then later found a passion for midwifery as I was more interested in helping the babies and not so much the paper work and went on to chase my passion as a doula. By the time I was in my mid twenties, I had saved up enough to pay for my first year of university, I applied for my BSc to study Biomedical Science in Oxford, UK so I could purse my passion as a scientist and help more people like my older brother with a neurological defect live a more happier and longer life. Years later and all those different paths, lead me into a project lead position and into the world of IT. I am constantly amazed by what I have learned about coding and finding new joys as a woman in STEM and transferring those same skills into my business and paying it forward through school programs and workshops for young women.
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
Learning more about coding, how AI is advancing the future of medicine and more. Knowing that I can be taken seriously based on my talents and knowledge as a woman in stem.
What advice would you give to young women considering a career in STEM?
Do not allow anyone to tell you you are not made for this. You are. Follow and trust your heart and instinct. Don’t limit yourself or let someone else fear of trying at their dreams stop you from going after yours. Do not seek validation from others to feel like you belong, darling, you already belong. You are greatness, and you were made to do great things.
