What is your dream job?
My dream job has always been to help people. Growing up that led to people telling me I should go into teaching, nursing, etc. I am forever grateful that my career in the skilled trades has allowed me to help people every day. Whether it be working on housing projects and giving families in my community a home or working with different industry leaders to improve the apprenticeship pathway for equity deserving individuals. I feel so fulfilled in all aspects of my career.
What makes you feel confident?
Reflecting back on my career accomplishments thus far is the source of the majority of my confidence. Looking back at the 19 year old Delaney who showed up every day to jobsites, places that had never really seen or welcomed women. Showing up and working every day to break down those barriers and the unconscious bias held by almost everyone in the industry took an extreme amount of resilience and I'm proud of that to this day. It's that same resilience that I channel every time I'm faced with a new barrier or challenge, whether in my career or in my personal life. I have used this confidence to stand up and use my lived experience to pave the way for other tradeswomen following in my footsteps. Giving women a voice in this industry has been the key to creating lasting change for generations to come.
What do you love about your work?
I love the camaraderie that forms when you work with certain groups of people. Jobsites are a place where as long as you're getting things done safely and properly, you have a lot of freedom to enjoy yourself while working. Most days are spent chatting with your coworkers about anything and everything, dancing and singing to whatever music you choose, and genuinely enjoying your workday. Often times you are collaborating with your coworkers on everything you do so this bond forms where they have my back and I have theirs. Taking a few moments out of your day to laugh with a coworker or have an impromptu Taylor Swift dance party isn't uncommon and it's one of my favorite parts of my job.
