What makes you feel confident?
From my childhood, I faced a lot of ups and downs in my life. If I lookback and analyze, I can see that I overcame every one of those situations with my hard work and moving on nature. I came to Canada without a single savings in a completely new part of the world. However, I stayed focused, worked hard, and moved on from each hurdle I faced. My struggles are my biggest friend and motivation to be confident.
What made you decide to pursue a career in STEM?
I wanted to be a doctor. I lost my family members due to cancer and I always wanted to do something towards Cancer research. Due to financial conditions, I couldn't pursue a medical career. Computer engineering sort of came my way and I completed my undergrad and masters. Whenever I choose my job I always have my passion to contribute towards the world back in my head. And that is how I stay motivated in my day to day life.
What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in STEM?
The biggest misconception is that women can't give 100% to their job as they also take care of their family, kids and household. I would say in today's world, men are also doing household chores, helping with kids, and working. So, women can do the same. I am waiting for the day when both men and women will be treated as normal human beings, not judged by their gender.
