When did your love of STEM begin?
In high school! By grade 11, we were allowed to drop Sciences or continue taking them and there was no doubt in my mind that I would drop any of the Sciences. I ended up taking all 3 provided at my school along with a Kinesiology course. I loved the challenge the classes brought me and I knew then that doing a Science in my undergrad was the path for me.
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
There is never a dull moment. I am always learning new information which is good for me because I love to learn. STEM is an awesome field because there is always new information to retain from people of all ages. There are new findings every day! It is exciting and I am looking forward to making a dent in the science (neuroscience) side of STEM especially as a woman in STEM.
What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?
Although the industry is changing, the STEM fields tend to have more men than women but do not let that intimidate you! Women are just as smart (or even smarter) than men! If you want to pursue anything in STEM then go for it; you are capable and you are strong! If you want something enough, you will work hard enough to get there I promise!
