Meet Bronwyn Reinhart

Bronwyn Reinhart is currently a Bachelor of Applied Science Candidate in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. In her free time, Bronwyn enjoys ballet and contemporary dancing and running, however, her favourite activity is crocheting. She picked up this hobby 2 years ago after watching tutorials on YouTube and has loved it ever since. She's created blankets for her family, dog coats, and clothing pieces which she sells to friends and on-line. Crocheting is time consuming, but very relaxing, so she likes to get a few stitches in as a study-break.

When did your love of STEM begin?

My love for STEM began in high school. I found myself gravitating towards science and mathematics course as I love to problem solve. There was no defining moment when I became interested in STEM, I just knew I loved doing Sudoku and logic puzzles and discovered throughout high school there was a career, engineering, that involves solving real-life puzzles - that is very exciting to me!

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

The best part about working in the field of STEM is that there is always a solution to your problem, and there are multiple engineering pathways you can take to obtain this solution. The fun part is deciding which solution is the most effective and, of course, feasible.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

My advice to young women interested in a career in STEM is to stay determined. You will face challenges during the program application process, in your studies, and in your career, but I truly believe that anyone can accomplish anything with a determined and persistent mindset.
