When did your love of STEM begin?

My love for STEM began at a very young age as my parents introduced me to nature through travel and camping. Throughout these experiences, they emphasized observations relating to biology, physics, and chemistry using scientific language. My love for gaining insight into nature grew more potent as I gained vocabularies that articulated scientific concepts through reading, study, discussion and adventure with my family.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

The best part about working in the field of STEM is the ability to approach challenges in a creative and dynamic way. Valuable STEM research demands the skills and ability to perpetually re-evaluate a given approach, integrate new information, and strive towards innovation that betters our planet.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

I would advise young women interested in a career in STEM to feel confident in the skills they develop, in their ability to learn continuously and to strive to demonstrate this confidence through leadership. A key factor in nurturing this confidence and being an effective leader is to identify aspects of your work for which you feel a strong passion.
