When did your love of STEM begin?
My love of STEM began in adulthood. I actively avoided math for a long time in my life. I then realized in my twenties that I actually use math every single day as my role as an analyst yet I was incredibly paralyzed by fear when it came to math. It was then, that I decided I would actively learn, grow and love math. It is a universal language that is the same in every single country and as a BIPOC that sort of inclusion is absolutely freeing and beautiful.
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
There is nothing but growth potential in STEM fields. In 7 years, I went from a Junior Analyst to a Director with constant personal education and networking. In other fields, you seldom have room for extreme growth.
What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?
DO NOT GIVE UP! STEM fields are not easy, it is meant to be. That difficulty keeps your mind sharp and agile.REMAIN CURIOUS!Never give up that part of your personality that wants to know "why".Most importantly, YOU ARE ENOUGH!!! One more time, YOU ARE ENOUGH!!! The struggle is a part of the journey. Failure is not the end of the road. Regard your mistakes or "failures" as power and a feedback mechanism not the end of your journey.
