Meet Fatemeh Ferdosian
Fatemeh Ferdosian graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering from Western University in 2015. She is currently a Research Scientist at DuPont Canada. In her free time, Fatemeh enjoys hanging out with family and friends, cooking, and camping.
When did your love of STEM begin?
As far as I remember, I was very curious and always wanted to find an answer for whatever happened around me. It was my fortune that my parents always supported my curiousity. They believed that I would be successful in STEM field. Finally, they convinced me to enroll in engineering field at university. After completing the first semester, I fell in love with engineering and found out it was what I was exactly looking for. Now after 16 years studying and working in engineering field, I still love it.
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
For me, the best part about working in STEM is dealing with new challenges. To overcome a challenge, I need to be creative and to think outside the box. It also encourages me to enhance my knowledge and develop my skill set. In addition, solving a problem boosts my confidence.
What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?
My advice to young women who are passionate about STEM would be go for it. You can reach your goals by hardworking and positive thinking. Don't be disappointed with obstacles facing on your success way, try hard to tackle them. If you fail, learn from your mistakes and try it again. Believe in yourself and do it, because you deserve the best.
