When did your love of STEM begin?: I have been fascinated by nature since childhood. At the age of 10, while I was wondering about the blue color of the sky, I witnessed a small part of rainbow in the sky which made me even curious to find answers to "how" and "why" of things. By the time I was in grade 7,I had decided to be a Physicist.. Thereafter, I chased my dream and getting support and encouragement from my parents, I completed my PhD in Physics. This led to interesting learning opportunities to work in reputed research labs and attend conferences across the globe. In due course I realized that there was Science in the hobbies such as music, art and sports and almost everything we do.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?: My passion for Science is my profession. Working in the field of STEM helps satisfy my curiosity about the world around me. At the same time it enables me to contribute to society by encouraging and empowering the younger generation to think objectively and engage creatively with their surroundings. I find it highly satisfying to promote STEM in remote areas of Labrador where the younger generations have limited access to Science activities outside of their school curricula. My research work on Materials design and development further contributes to generating knowledge in the field and promoting awareness of climate change and Environment.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?: Go for it ! It is worth pursuing. Science is everywhere, in every field of study, be it satisfying your curiosity or becoming a professional scientist, educator, artist, nurse, businessperson, physician, sportsperson.
