When did your love of STEM begin?

I was always curious about my surroundings as a young child, whether it be about animals or technology around the house. As a child, when I would ask questions, my parents would always encourage me to read books and would buy me books if the one in my collection could not answer the questions. My first serious consideration to pursue career in STEM began when I visited a planetarium on one of the family vacations. I was instantly curious about everything space and our place in the universe. As I read more books, I got more and more inquisitive. During this time, my aunt gifted me a telescope and the moment I saw the Moon, Saturn and Jupiter through my own telescope, I decided this is what I wanted to do for life.

What did you love most about study in your field of STEM?

STEM field offers constant learning and adventure! You are not only able to contribute to the understanding of our surroundings but also be part of the process and facilitate it. On everyday basis we get to explore, innovate and contribute - I wake up every day with the excitement of what is the next big thing we are going to learn today!

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in STEM?

Do not let others dictate what you are capable of, if you are passionate about something, don't let anything stop you! Find mentors and champions in the career you want to pursue and use them wisely!
