Meet Claudia Wyld

This is a photo of Claudia on the day she pleaded her allegiance to King Charles III as a parliamentary page.

Claudia is aiming to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Ottawa in 2025. She is currently in her second year and hopes to continue her studies beyond graduation in the field of health sciences. She is also a Parliamentary Page at the House of Commons and a competitive downhill ski coach at Camp Fortune Ski Club in Chelsea, Quebec. In her spare time, Claudia enjoys going to the gym to maintain her physical and mental health and includes long-distance running in her regular routine. She enjoys hiking whether it be in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, in Gatineau Park in Chelsea, in the Dolomites in Italy or in the Lake District in England. Additionally, she loves to travel to pursue outdoor activities, experience new cultures, try new foods and meet new people.

When did your love of STEM begin?

In grade 9, our entire science class curriculum studied the human body and its different systems. I particularly enjoyed that year. I really like the challenge that comes with STEM courses. There is always something more to learn.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

I love the fact that science is everywhere. Almost everything can be explained by science. I often find myself relating my daily activities with the material Iā€™m learning in my courses. And it is satisfying to be able to link the different notions I learn together.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

Never give up! Science is not always easy and it is a competitive field but it can be very rewarding if you persevere. The ability to pick yourself back up and keep trying will greatly help you succeed in STEM.
