When did your love of STEM begin?

I have always had an appreciation for nature however, I think my true passion for science began in grade 7 when we had our first opportunity to dissect and study fish and amphibians.

What did you love most about study in your field of STEM?

I love that my role enables me to be creative when considering research projects or new technologies that will help us be more effective and efficient in detecting invasive plant pests. Not only am I engrained in the scientific aspect of regulation, but I also have the opportunity to engage and educate our partners and the public in interesting ways to promote awareness.

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in STEM?

Follow your heart and make a career out of your passion. Be flexible and enjoy the ride. If you keep an open mind and expose yourself to many facets of STEM, you never know where the path may take you. I can honestly say, I never would have guessed where I would end up.
