When did your love of STEM begin?
From as long ago as I can remember! Noticing something unusual, beautiful, surprising, etc. in my world and saying "hmmm - why is that?" I'm pretty sure I used to drive my parents crazy with the constant string of questions!
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
In research, the best part is the incredibly satisfying feeling of solving a problem or a mystery that you (and colleagues) have been struggling with, using logic and careful experimental design and execution.
In teaching, seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of students when they have that 'a-ha!' moment of learning. There is NOTHING more rewarding than helping someone achieve that light bulb moment!
What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?
Do it! Follow your passions - you never know where they will take you!
