When did your love of STEM begin?
Back in India where every parent wants their children to pursue a career in Law or Medicine, my dad wished for me to become a pilot. I grew up listening to the conversations around topics of science and mathematics which in my early years brought my interest in to the space of Science. In secondary school while acing the science and mathematics tests, i had already developed an understanding that I will have a career in the field of Science.
What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?
In the field of STEM, myriad of discoveries and inventions have already been done and even many more are yet to come. It intrigues me to see the possibilities we are still to witness. Where Science gives us the opportunity to discover the complexities of human existence, Technology empowers us with the ability to bring the things(IT systems in my case) to life that are not only used by humans but also make an impact in their lives. Developing such systems gives me immense pleasure and the kind of job satisfactions I always sought.
What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?
There is a profound scope of growth in the field of STEM, one can reach heights if one dreams and dares to. My advice to young people has always been to be curious and keep learning and if it is intriguing enough go for it as I believe for every naysayer there are twice the number of people to be the pillar of support one can need or ask for. Since the beginning of my career in 2011 Accenture proved to be the kind of such support throughout and i feel blessed to find the mentors and seniors who were there to extend the support I ever needed here.
