Meet Katie Newton

Katie Newton is currently studying for her Dual Degree Bachelor of Arts in Honours Business Administration, at the Ivey Business School, and her Honours Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Western University. In her spare time, she likes playing field hockey, traveling, hanging out with family and friends, reading fiction novels, eating interesting foods, going out to restaurants, and hosting parties.

When did your love of STEM begin?

I think I really started to enjoy STEM when I found that I was good at it, early in high school. When you are good at something and it comes naturally, you tend to enjoy it! After enrolling in more STEM courses and pursuing a STEM degree, I realized I love the objectivity and reliability of STEM. When my professors mark my tests, I am either right or wrong, and I really like that. I also love math and science because I can rely on it eventually. It all makes sense and stimulates logical thinking. I love when everything "adds up"

What advice would you give to young women considering a career in STEM?

Go for it!! One of the best decisions I have made, and I would do it again for sure.
