Meet Mehrnaz Shokrollahi

Mehrnaz chaired the International Conference for Upcoming Engineers (ICUE).

Mehrnaz Shokrollahi graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Ryerson University in 2015. She currently works as a Senior Data Scientist at PureFacts Financial Solutions. In her spare time, Mehrnaz enjoys taking her son to parks, playing piano, and tennis.

When did your love of STEM begin?

My love of STEM began when I was a little child. I used to sit by my father's side and watch him fix things, solve complicated mathematical problems and show me how physics and science work. He inspired me the most by teaching me about Engineering through real world problems.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

Working in the STEM means you need to be a good scientist, mathematician, technician, researcher and more. Its a multi-disciplinary world and it touches all areas. As a Data Scientist, I bring ideas into life that can impact many people and industries. I have been able to apply what I have learned from my engineering background to real world problems and solve some of the most complicated problems.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

Release the idea that things could've been any other way. There is no point in wondering what if or pondering what could've been or believing what should've been. There is only the way things actually are, the rest is all made up in our mind.
