“Science is usually a very hands on field, however during the COVID pandemic many of us have had to transition into working online. This work is just as powerful as what we do in the lab daily and has made me realize how much one must constantly learn and be open to learning when they enter the STEM field. There is never a dull moment!”

Anetta Ille graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Waterloo in 2019. She is currently a General Medicine student at UMF Cluj. In her spare time, Anetta enjoys hiking, making med/scientific infographics, baking, and drawing.

When did your love of STEM begin?

I've always loved STEM. Throughout all of primary school math was my favourite subject. Once I hit the latter years of high school, I started to shift towards physics and chemistry. Finally, in my undergrad I realized how much I love genetics and molecular biology.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

Constantly learning new things and hearing about new discoveries in the field!

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

Just do it! Life is short and if STEM is something you are passionate about go full force and give it your all, it'll be tough but worth it.
