Meet Zeljka Popovic

Zeljka Popovic graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Georgia College and State University, in 2017. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Bioanalytical Chemistry at Florida State University. In her spare time she likes to explore the city she lives in, listen to podcasts, and cook.

When did your love of STEM begin?

I think my love for STEM really started when I realized that it was only my STEM courses that could hold my interest. I'd be lying if I said I liked every STEM course I have taken, but I can say that all of them made me want to learn more, to dig deeper beyond what school could teach me.

What is the best part about working in the field of STEM?

Working in STEM can be a roller coaster, but the best part is it's never ending! There's always more to learn, even when you become an expert in your field.

What advice would you give young women interested in a career in STEM?

Passion is all it takes to make STEM a part of your life. Some people will tell you that you can't be in STEM because you're not good at math, and they'd be wrong. They might even tell you that you can't be in STEM because you're a female, and they couldn't be more than wrong. If you have a passion for STEM, just keep pushing forward. I am sure you'll find some pretty amazing and encouraging women along the way to help.
